im happy for tessa thompson and im glad shes living her best life but if she becomes tumblr’s newest chosen black im gonna scream 

by chosen black i mean: every few months tumblr will choose a black celebrity whos been doing well lately and just? go off the rails reblogging them like mad, shoehorning them into every fancast and au post out there, talking about them in this extra ass, fetish-y way. its all super performative and just a tad suspicious cause to me, it looks like yall are going so hard for this one black person cause its easy. you can give off the appearance that you love and support black ppl while not doing any work to familiarize yourself with or support anyone else.

Lupita was fancasted for every single Black role ever. Whites only like Janelle because of dirty compete and seem to even refuse to engage with any of her pervious work and even called her an ultra femme(ignore her gender non conformity, her struggle to be recongnized while not being traditionally feminine, how Blackness makes he boundaries or femme/butch more complicated)

There’s always a pattern. They always pick someone who they deem as “respectful” some but not “too loud”(in their eyes) and are usually light akin(Lupita was the major and only dark skin woman they clung to) but they are never pick actresses who are also often deemed “too Black” and they also act like they discovered people from one show or another when they had a career spanning decades (Gina Torres comes to mind)
